Want to immerse yourself in the culture and the Parisian atmosphere? Since it’s hard to travel right now because of COVID, I created a list of movies set in Paris so that you can travel to the City of Lights from your couch.

Ultra Frenchie atmosphere, this animated film follows the adventures of a rat dreaming of becoming a chef in Paris. The movie celebrates French culture, especially the world-famous gastronomy. don’t watch it on an empty stomach!

Midnight in Paris
Woody Allen, 2011

A scriptwriter on holidays in Paris dreams of becoming a real writer. every night he is transported to the 20s and gets to meet his idols. Woody Allen takes us to the heart of a romantic Paris: Montmartre, the Quais de Seine, the Champs-Elysées, Saint-Michel … you will see the most beautiful corners of Paris. let yourself be carried away by the love of betting that Allen wants to convey. and it works!

Maiwenn, 2011

This film deals with the daily life of the police officers of the brigade for the protection of minors. delicate subject carried by a formidable cast, one goes from sordid to humour. A great film to watch to realize the reality of the police world and “real” images of life in Paris, not romanticism.

Moulin rouge
Baz Luhrmann, 2001

The love story between a young English poet and a dancer from the famous Moulin Rouge at the dawn of the twentieth century in Paris. Moulin Rouge is an emotional film with excellent actors and impeccable staging. Throughout the film, we are immersed in the Moulin Rouge, this place so original and colourful. Iconic place in Paris, this establishment is still adored by tourists today. if you want to (re) discover the Montmartre district, this film is for you!

Pierre Morel, 2008

An entertaining action movie where the main actor (Liam Nesson) will do everything to achieve his ends. there is very little downtime so we don’t get bored in front of this low ass movie! since the kidnapping takes place in Paris, you can see many places in the capital there, such as Church of Saint Germain’Auxerrois, Ile Saint-Louis, River Seine, Quai d’Anjou, Pont de Sully and more.

In this musical starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, we follow the story of an Editor-in-Chief of the famous Quality Magazine who wants intellectuals to take a little more interest in fashion. Audrey Hepburn is beautiful and fascinating in her role as a mischievous librarian. Superb dances and songs taking place in the Paris of the 50s.

Yves Saint Laurent
Jalil Lespert, 2014

Yves Saint Laurent, 21, presents his first collection for Dior. French biopic, elegant and sophisticated, carried by a dazzling actor (Pierre Niney). . the band is magnificent and the costumes flawless. if you like fashion and Paris, this is a must-see movie. Lespert was even authorized to film certain scenes at YSL headquarters on Avenue Marceau in Paris.

Gary Goldman, 1997

Saint Petersburg, the year 1917. Princess Anastasia is separated from her grandmother the Empress after the massacre of their family.
I remember this animated movie as my favourite when I was little. The mystery surrounding this royal family, the music (have the look at the amazing soundtrack here), the journey from Russia to France, the sparkling character of Anastasia… And, of course, the arrival in Paris and the complicated reunion.
This film is to be seen by everyone, children and adults! The story is fascinating and catchy and ends in magnificent Parisian places.

Les Miserables 
Tom Hooper, 2012

Adaptation of one of the greatest novels of the 19th century, written by French author Victor Hugo. This musical depicts social injustices in France in the 19th century. We follow in particular the eventful history of Jean Valjean and Cosette in the capital.
Fall back into history with the revolutionaries, the forgotten, the unhappy, who, in this great luminous Paris, sing their revolution.

The Aristocats
Wolfgang Reitherman, 1970

The Aristocats takes place in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. A rich old lady decides to bequeath all her fortune to her cats. Unfortunately, the butler hears and will try to get rid of the cats.
The jazzy soundtrack, the adventures of the cats and the meticulously drawn Parisian streets make this animated movie one of the Disney favourites of young and old! The cats restore Paris to its nocturnal splendour and evolve in perfectly designed Parisian settings.

    Haha I love that you included cartoons in this, is it weird that the cartoon ones are the ones that I’ve actually seen? Both Ratatouille and the aristocats. I also really love moulin rouge but have not seen any of the others, I might have to add a few to the list. Thank you!
